A group of 27 leading businessmen from Thailand is scheduled to be visiting Lima May 9-12, to explore trade and investment opportunities in Peru. The visit, led by Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, director general of the Department of International Trade Promotion, includes a business networking session organized by the Lima Chamber of Commerce, a brief call on the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva, and on officials at the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
The business leaders are primarily from the sectors of auto-parts and accessories, construction materials, and food.
Independently of the business delegation, representatives of Thailand’s Blue Elephant restaurant group and the Surin Restaurant Group will be in Lima at the same time, looking into the possibility of opening Thai restaurants in Lima as a joint venture with local partners.
The Blue Elephant Group currently operates 12 restaurants, in Bangkok, Dubai, London, Paris, Brussels and Moscow, while the Surin group has expanded to operated restaurants in the U.S. since 1990, in Atlanta and in Tennessee.
Thailand and Peru have recently signed a Free Trade Agreement, following visits by President Humala and a Peruvian trade delegation in October 2013. Trade between both countries in 2013 totaled US$ 634 million.
