Humala, Fujimori plan presidential debate for May 29

Presidential candidates Ollanta Humala and Keiko Fujimori have agreed to a debate on Sunday, May 29, Radioprogramas reported.

Humala’s left-wing Gana Peru party and Fujimori’s rightist Fuerza 2011 party are currently determining the location for the debate. It was originally planned at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Lima, but that location is now unavailable  on the agreed date.

In addition, representatives Blanca Rosales and Fernan Altuve of Gana Peru and Fuerza 2011, respectively, have agreed to debate their government plans on May 22, the report said.

The second round vote between Humala and Fujimori is scheduled for June 5 and the winner will assume office on July 28. According to a recent opinion poll, Humala has 39 percent support and Fujimori has 38 percent.
