President Alan Garcia met South Korea’s President Lee Muyng-Bank Wednesday for protocol ceremonies at the presidential palace of Cheong Wa Dae, during his first day in Seoul.
Following meetings with leading government officials and with Korean corporations, including SK and Daewoo, Garcia is scheduled to travel to Singapore for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum being held this week.
Garcia arrived in Tokyo on Monday, where he was received at the Imperial Palace by Emperor Akihito after meetings with the prime minister, Yukio Hatoyama, and with members of the Peruvian–Japanese business committee.
While in Singapore, Garcia will sign a protocol with Thailand to put into effect the full Free Trade Agreement that was partially initiated in 2005 at the APEC Summit in Busan, South Korea and signed by President Alejandro Toledo and the Thai prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra.
