Humala to Travel to France, Spain and Portugal

President Ollanta Humala left for Europe on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to participate in the 22nd Ibero-American Summit in Cadiz, state news agency Andina reported.

Humala will first travel to France, before heading to Spain for the summit, which is scheduled for November 16 and 17.

In France, Humala is expected to meet with President Francois Hollande, as well as Peru’s legal team leading the country’s maritime border dispute with Chile at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Humala will later travel to Portugal before returning to Peru on November 20.

The trip is intended to strengthen Peru’s ties with the European countries.

The Ibero-American Summit, which is held annually, includes 22 full member countries from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries in the Americas and Europe. The Philippines and Puerto Rico are associate members. Former Spanish and Portuguese colonies in Africa and Asia have applied for membership.

Lima was host to the 11th Summit in 2001.
