Peru Student Wins Silver Medals in Chemistry and Biology

It has been a successful and busy year for Luis Cabrera Sosa, 15. This past week in Havana, he won a silver medal in the 14th Ibero-American Chemistry Olympiad, among 56 contestants from 13 countries who competed at the event.

Just a few weeks ago, in mid-September, he won another silver medal, at the Third Ibero-American Biology Olympiad, which was held in the Canary Islands. It was the first biology medal ever won by Peru.

In July, and as Peru’s current national chemistry champion, Cabrera travelled to Cambridge, in England, to compete with young students from all over the world in the 41st International Chemistry Olympiad, IChO. The event was co-hosted by Cambridge and Oxford Universities and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Cabrera is no stranger to challenges. He won a bronze several years ago at a Mathematics Olympiad in Rio de la Plata, Argentina. And at the age of 11, he was accepted into the Universidad Nacional del Callao.Cabrera Sosa - Luis - Oct 09
