Report: Iran’s Ahmadinejad Plans Trip To Peru

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad plans to visit Peru during an upcoming tour of South America, RPP radio reported.

Ahmadinejad plans to visit Brazil, where he will meet with President Dilma Rousseff, “soon,” according to RPP, which cited an Iranian news agency.

During that trip, he will visit other countries, including Peru, RPP said, without providing further details about when that visit may occur.

It is unclear whether Ahmadinejad plans to meet with President Ollanta Humala while in Peru, RPP added.

If confirmed, the trip would not be the Iranian president’s first in Latin America this year. In January, Ahmadinejad did a five-day tour that included visits to Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Ecuador.

Ahmadinejad has looked to strengthen ties with leftist leaders in Latin America, including Venezuelan firebrand Hugo Chavez, who shares with the Iranian president his staunch opposition to the U.S. and other Western nations.
