5 million-year old giant sloth fossil found in Department of Cuzco

A 5 million-year old giant sloth fossil was found in the highland Department of Cuzco and is currently being restored by experts from Peru’s National Culture Institute, or INC, and scientists from Lima’ San Marcos University, daily El Comercio reported Tuesday.

The fossil, which was found last year by city workers while they were installing new sewage pipes, is roughly 3 meters high.

It will be exhibited in Cuzco’s town hall until the restoration process is complete.
