Bolivian protesters shut down two land entry points at Peru border

About 100 protesters, demanding the resignation of local authorities accused of corruption in the Bolivian community of Desaguadero, have blockaded two highways leading to Peru-Bolivia border crossings, halting traffic and export trucks dead in their tracks.

The blockades, set up on Monday, were lifted that same day but swept back into place on Wednesday. Local authorities have repeatedly tried to initiate dialogue with Desaguadero residents, to no avail.

Though the situation is not yet critical, border police have reported that Bolivian trucks “exporting products to Peru” have been left stranded by the road blockades.
