After stints in Brazil and Argentina, the B-52’s, a New Wave rock band that originated in Georgia in the late 1970s, has landed in Peru’s capital, Lima, to perform a live concert on Thursday night.
According to daily Peru21, approximately 12,000 people have bought tickets for the concert, which is part of the B-52’s “Funplex Tour 2009.”
The band, mostly known for their songs “Private Idaho,” “Rock Lobster, “and “Good Stuff,” dubbed itself the B-52’s after a particular beehive hairdo resembling the nose cone of the aircraft of the same name. During their early years, wigs of that style were often worn by the band’s female singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson.
Lima has recently hosted concerts by R.E.M., Peter Gabriel, Marc Anthony, Iron Maiden and Kiss. Upcoming events include Oasis, The Village People, Cypress Hill, rapper 50-Cent and reggaeton star Daddy Yankee.
