Peru wins team gold at World Surfing Games

Peru’s surfing team will take home gold at the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games at Punta Hermos, outdoing 30 other countries competing at the event.

The host country finished first in the team section with 14,370 points, ahead of Australia with 14,160 points, South Africa at 11,820 and Brazil with 11,340.

“This is historic, it is the best moment of my carrer,” Sofia Mulanovich, who is the first Peruvian ever to win an Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour event, told Radioprogramas.  “This is special because we are the team world champions. It’s the best.”

In the individual categories, Mulanovich earned the bronze with 730 points behind New Zealand’s Paige Hareb with 860 points and Australia’s Chelsea Hodges with 1,000 points.

In the men’s category, Peru’s Gabriel Villáran won silver while Tahiti’s Hira Teriinatoofa earned the top spot on the podium.
