Due to an editing error, the Peruvian Times reported erroneously today that President George W. Bush’s participation in the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Lima this weekend was his first APEC meeting since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Apology to Peruvian Times readers for technical glitches on the Web site

This past week, while the world suffered the gyrations of the worst financial meltdown since the Great Depression, and President Alan Garcia succumbed to a mushrooming oil kickback scandal that forced the ouster of most of his Cabinet, Peruvian Times had some problems of its own.

We  switched our site’s hosting in the United States and, in the process, suffered a perfect storm of technical glitches, deleted news entries and disappearing story archives.

The end result was that our coverage suffered and was lacking, and for that we apologize to our loyal readers.

We are back on keel and will again be delivering the English-language news stories you expect from us.

Best regards,

Hacker arrest Update & Clarification:

January 3, 2008 by rickfrombrooklyn · Leave a Comment

Police stepped back from definitively identifying Cesar Alexis Atoche as “Cyber Alexis,” saying in a written statement released Friday to the Andean Air Mail & Peruvian Times that Atoche “could be the person who ‘hacked’ into the Chilean Housing Ministry and Interior Ministry pages in 2005 and 2007.”

Police spokesman Lt. Col. Manuel Diaz said Atoche was being interrogated in the presence of a defense lawyer, and that police were not ready to identify him as Cyber Alexis.

“There is evidence, but there isn’t proof,” he said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
