Presidential Cabinet Chief Yehude Simon told lawmakers Monday that the leader of Peru’s largest Indigenous federation was holed up in the Nicarguan Embassy, protected by political asylum following a deadly melee with police in Peru’s northern jungle.

The president of Texas-based BPZ Energy announced a plan today to invest $215 million in hydrocarbon exploration and production in Peru this year. Manuel ZĂșñiga said the investment will be used to drill new wells and further develop the four blocks where they are currently operating, Agencia Andina reported.
