CORRECTION: Blacker faces deportation from U.S. for violating immigration laws

Peru’s ex-minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Blacker, was arrested in Miami yesterday by the U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement and not by federal agents, according to a report today in El Comercio, which spoke to ICE spokesperson, Nicole A. Navas.

According to Navas, Blacker was arrested for violating immigration laws but faces no criminal charges, and is held at the Krome processing center pending deportation.

The first news reports of Blacker’s arrest, indicated that he had been arrested by federal agents due to an international arrest warrant, issued by Peru for charges of aiding and abetting President Fujimori’s auto-coup in 1992.
