Four people are being held in quarantine in the Dos de Mayo hospital, under observation for the Wuhan coronavirus.  The three Chinese citizens, who were in the city of Wuhan for at least two weeks before arriving in Lima, and their Peruvian interpreter, will remain in hospital for three days until tests dismiss or confirm that they have the virus.   The virus is contagious even before flu symptoms appear.

In China, at least 41 people have died and globally over 1,350 are infected with the new coronavirus strain, named temporarily by the World Health Organization as 2019-nCoV.

In Hong Kong, where five cases were confirmed earlier this week, the government declared a state of emergency, with measures that include not only cancelling all flights and trains between the island and Wuhan but also cancelling celebrations for the Chinese New Year.  All cases in Hong Kong involved people who had visited Wuhan.

China has imposed a travel ban on Wuhan, but this past weekend the U.S. and other countries were planning to evacuate their citizens and diplomats from Wuhan on chartered flights.
